Maria's peasant dress

First Holy Communion dress

Maria Goretti was a young Italian peasant girl who was martyred when she refused the advances of a farmhand.  On her deathbed, she forgave her murderer.

The farmhand was present at Maria's canonization, along with her mother who also then forgave him.

Today, Maria's Feast Day is celebrated on July 6th.  She is the patron saint of purity, chastity, and forgiveness.  You can read Maria's bio here, on My Light!
